Breath Analysis in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases
A comprehensive literature search was performed to assess all relevant citations found in PubMed, Ovid Medline (service of the US National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health) and Scopus for the following key words: 'breath', 'metabolome', 'inflammatory bowel disease', 'Crohn's disease', 'Crohn's', 'Ulcerative colitis', 'volatile organic compounds' or 'electronic nose'. Additionally, references of cited original articles and reviews were further assessed for relevant work. These data together with the authors' personal experience in the field represent the basis of this review.
