Commercial Vinyl Tile Installation

    • 1). Install ¼-inch plywood sheeting on the floor. The plywood will be a smooth, flat surface for the self-sticking vinyl tiles. Staple the sheeting to the floor with a pneumatic nail gun.

    • 2). Cover the joints between the plywood sheeting with leveling compound and a putty knife or trowel. Let the compound dry and sand it smooth with sandpaper.

    • 3). Clean the floor with a vacuum or broom. There should be no dirt or large debris on the floor.

    • 4). Mark a layout for the tiles. Measure the room with a measuring tape. At the center of the room length, snap a chalkline. Snap another chalkline in the center of the width of the room. The lines should intersect in the middle of the room. These lines will serve as a layout guide for the tile installation.

    • 5). Install the commercial vinyl tiles. Peel the paper from the back of the tiles. Stick the tiles in place, starting at the lines in the center of the room. Cover the floor with the tiles. As necessary, cut the tiles to size with a vinyl tile cutter.
