EPT Overview
EPT or European Poker Tournament is the richest and most famous poker event in Europe.
These poker tournaments are played live in some of the most lavish and striking casinos of Europe's most historic & romantic locations.
The EPT season evolved in the year 2004 as Texas Hold'em gained worldwide popularity.
The year 2008 hosted the fifth season of the EPT and to date, all EPT events continue to be No Limit Texas Hold'em.
John Duthie, the executive producer of the EPT has been a high stakes power poker player for many years and he achieved his major victory by winning the 2000 Poker Million live on television, where he won £1,000,000.
This event brought him fame enabling him to take the game of poker to UK.
When the tournaments just began, the EPT featured buy-ins that was approximately half the size of the WPT.
Hence the buy-in and its subsequent pressure on the prize pool were the most major difference between the World Poker Tour and the EPT.
However, the buy-ins mulitipied to EUR8,000, (US$ 10,000), which was the buy-in for most WPT events held since season 4.
The rising popularity and lack of space in participating casino were the reason for this transformation.
Moreover, the final table is made up of eight players as against the six players in the WPT.
Europe's first transnational Poker Tour turned out to be a fashionable multi-event, multi-country series of televised poker tournaments spread across Europe.
Currently EPT is sponsored by PokerStars and filmed for television broadcasting by the famous award-winning production company Sunset+Vine.
By virtue of its fame, esteem and gratitude, it is broadcast throughout the world.
It also includes a featured 'show' table for broadcast on Eurosport and other satellite as well as terrestrial TV channels across the world.
John Duthie, famous as the winner of the inaugural Poker Million Tournament was the brain behind the European Poker Tour.
Duthie also acts as the commentator of the show along with Colin Murray.
