How to Draw Oak Trees

    • 1). Sketch the general outline of the oak tree's trunk and branches on a piece of drawing paper with a pencil. The trunk should be the same thickness throughout, with branches that spread out in a large circular formation over the entire top half of the trunk.

    • 2). Draw each individual leaf over the branches, taking care to make each leaf the same shape. Oak tree leaves are long with wavy edges on each side, with a single line that scrapes right down the middle. They are medium in size and form a large, circular cloud over the branches.

    • 3). Use an eraser to remove any overlapping branch lines from the leaf areas.

    • 4). Use the side of your pencil to shade some texture over the tree trunk and any branches that are still visible. Make back and forth motions with the pencil to create a bark effect. The shading should be darker on the sides of the trunk and lighter in the middle to give the tree depth.

    • 5). Color in the leaves using tones that are very close to each other, allowing the sharp outlines of the leaves to separate them from one another.
