Dear Marcy: If you're unemployed it's fine to note that you are seeking employment in your profile. Here are some tips on how to phrase it.

Obviously, if you're employed you don't want your boss to find out that you're job searching. In that case, I wouldn't include it. I'd also suggest turning off your activity stream updates, so your employer doesn't find out your job searching.
