How to Find Property Owners Association Bylaws

    • 1). Visit to the website of the property owners association and click on its bylaws link. This is usually a PDF download, though some bylaws appear on a regular web page. Print the bylaws for your records and to compare to those of other property owners associations in the area. Some areas, such as the Southwest, may have more regulations on water use; others may have more regulations on noise pollution. Comparing different sets of bylaws will give you an idea of the area's typical expectations.

    • 2). Call your local zoning board or government real estate office and request a copy of the bylaws. States and county governments regulate real estate owner organizations to prevent discrimination, so the association may be required by law to submit its documents to be kept on file.

    • 3). Call the property owners association office and request a copy of the bylaws. Most associations will be happy to help. They can fax, email or mail the bylaws. You may have to pay for the postage.
