How to Make Birds' Nests Out of Wicker Baskets
- 1). Assist your child with cutting several four- to six-inch pieces of brightly colored red, yellow, green and orange yarn with a pair of scissors. Utilize safety scissors if the child is younger than seven.
- 2). Pull some lint out of the dryer. The birds enjoy the warmth and softness that the lint adds to the nest.
- 3). Gather some small twigs and sticks from your yard.
- 4). Lay the lint in the bottom of the wicker basket.
- 5). Place the small twigs and sticks on top of the lint.
- 6). Place the yarn pieces on top of the twigs.
- 7). Hang the wicker basket birdhouse from a tree. Make sure the branch is far enough off the ground so that the family pets are not able to pull the basket down.
- 8). Watch the nest with your child to see if any birds lay their eggs and use the nest for a home.
