Diagnosis of Picture Problems With LG Plasma HDTV

    Image Static

    • If you are watching your television and it tends to have some signal interference, such as an occasional line jumping across the screen where the picture seems to almost shake, this is typically due to either the connection or the cable receiver, not the television. Check out the HDMI cable connection to make sure it is securely connected to the television. Likewise, check the other side to see if it is tightly connected to the HD cable receiver or Blu-ray player. If this does not correct the issue, try switching out the HDMI cable with another one. If you have both a Blu-ray player and an HD receiver hooked up to it, and the picture issues are only occuring with one of the devices, lets say the receiver, you should remove the HDMI cable from the Blu-ray player and connect the receiver to the television with this cable. If the problem is fixed, you know you need a new cable. If it does not help, you will need to call your cable provider and explain the issue.

    Picture Too Small

    • You may run into an issue where there is a black frame around the entire picture. This is because the television is not set to the proper zoom setting. The LG Plasma HDTV will have a "Zoom" button on the bottom of the remote. Press this until the picture returns to its normal size. If this does not work, power down both the TV and the HD device it is using. Power the two back on, and the issue should be resolved.

    Stretched Picture

    • Your picture may appear to be stretched or squished. This is because the aspect ratio is not properly set up on your HD receiver. Press the "Menu" button on your cable receiver's remote control. From there move over to "Options." Select "Options" and find "Aspect Ratio." Here you will be shown a list of aspect ratios. Choose the proper dimensional size (either 720HD or 1080HD). Press "OK" for the selection and the picture will be corrected.

    Image Burn In

    • Image burn in may be one of the worst things you can have happen to your LG Plasma HDTV. This is when a particular color is permanently burned into the screen, and it happens when the television is left on for far too long and the same color is displayed on the monitor. The burn in will need to be taken to a repair shop; however, it may be cheaper to purchase a new television.

    Dead Pixel

    • Although not as bad as the burn in, having a pixel die can be difficult to correct as well. Your HDTV is made up of millions of tiny pixels. These make up the image. If you notice one pixel is permanently white or black and doesn't change colors, no matter what is playing in the background, this means the pixel is dead. There isn't much you can do about this problem other than try to ignore it.
