Face Products for Dry, Sensitive, Acne-Prone Skin
- Cleansing the skin using traditional soaps and cleansers can sometimes be too harsh for dry, sensitive skin. Luckily, dry skin that is also acne-prone can be cleansed easily using a method that utilizes oil to clean out the pores. Two specific oils, castor oil and olive oil, bond to the oils on the skin, along with trapped dirt and impurities, and effectively flush out the pores and reduce acne. To use the oil cleansing method properly, pour 1/2 teaspoon of castor oil and and 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil into the palms of your hands and massage them around the face for at least 2 minutes. Then, lay a hot, wet towel over the face to allow the steam to open up the pores. After the cloth completely cools, wipe away the excess oils, along with the impurities. Proceed to steam and wipe the face two times more in order to remove all of the excess oils.
- Exfoliating the skin can help remove dead skin cells and keep the pores clear of dirt and acne-causing bacteria. Using traditional exfoliators, such as alpha-hydroxy creams or ground apricot, can irritate and damage dry, sensitive skin. Luckily, oatmeal can be used as a natural and gentle exfoliator to clear the pores of dry, acne-prone skin. The oatmeal used must be raw stone-ground oats wthout any additives such as sugars or flavorings. Wet the face and apply about 1/4 cup of raw oats to the skin, massaging them around the face for about 1 minute. Rinse well with water.
- Typically, acne is treated using a medicated benzoyl peroxide cream. For dry, sensitive skin that is acne-prone, benzoyl peroxide cream can be too drying and damaging. Luckily, tea-tree oil can replace benzoyl peroxide cream with the same effectiveness. Tea-tree oil can be found at any health food store or online and is usually bought in an undiluted form. In order to use tea-tree oil on the skin it must be diluted. This can be easily done by dipping a cotton swab in tea-tree oil, then dipping it again into water. Apply the diluted oil on the swab onto the active acne blemishes, effectively spot treating the acne.
