Barack Obama Our 44th President

As I was watching one of the television networks' 2008 Election Coverage Results last night, an announcement was broadcasted, projecting "Barack Obama as our President Elect.
" After hearing that projection, all I could say was, "Thank You Jesus!" This election has been one of the most historical events that has happened in my lifetime.
The election of the first African American President was a very historic day not only for African Americans, but for all Americans.
While I continued to watch the election coverage, I observed overwhelming tears of joy on the faces of people from all over the world and they were jubilant, dancing and chanting, "Yes We Can.
" In my opinion, what was most distinctive about my observation, was the elderly African- American men and women, with tears streaming down their faces, singing and joyously celebrating the election of our 44th President, Barack Obama.
Perhaps, as their tears flowed, they were reflecting on the earlier years of their lives when discrimination and Jim Crow laws were prevalent.
While the election of an African American President will certainly not erase the discriminatory practices of our past and present, it clearly sends a strong message that we as Americans have moved one step closer to eradicating the evils of our past.
Now, hopefully, we can all move forward as a nation and work together, in harmony, to make this a greater nation for our children and the next generations to come.
This historic event, has placed us on the world stage and we will be judged by our actions in the days and weeks to come.
Therefore, it is imperative that we show the world that we are united as one.
Finally, "May God continue to bless, this United States of America.
