It is an open fact that the name of the group has been derived from those lines but the arcade game Atari is also an inspiration for the reason that the group echoes that arcade game sound. The group was formed in a rather peculiar way. Who would have thought that rendering a community service for some offenses made can actually prompt the forming of a band? It was in 2003 when Ethan Kath and Alice Glass met while “reading for the blind” as their community service following some rules breaking.
When Ethan heard Alice singing in her Fetus fatale band, he thought to himself that he had finally found the missing ingredient that would complete his music. A year after that, Ethan gaev Alice 60 instrumental tracks, 5 of which Alice recorded a year after.
Though Alice was clueless that the studio engineer was secretly recording, the product was an instant hit: Alice Practice, the single. It was a limited 7” vinyl record that sold like hotcakes in 2006. Soon, many records coming from the group until their first CD that includes many of their unreleased singles was produced and released in the market in 2008, Crystal Castles.
