- 1). Find a place to live and get proof of residence (utility bills work well). The bank will want to see your passport, as well as your proof of residence when you apply for an account.
- 2). Talk to your home bank because it will likely know what to expect. Also take some travelers checks for when you are getting settled in.
- 3). Visit the different banks, and see which ones have employees who speak English. Even if you do end up learning the language, you will likely feel better about having someone who speaks your native tongue taking care of your financial concerns.
- 4). Ask any friends you have who have moved abroad for their advice on banks, especially if they have lived in the country you are going to live in.
