How to Clean a Cooling Exchanger

    • 1). Change or clean your filters leading to your cooling exchanger on a regular basis. If you have a commercial system that uses a water-based filtration system, the water in your system will wash away debris that has gathered on the filter, and the plumbing will circulate clean water in, so that the debris doesn't gather in your system. However, air-based filters take a little more work.

    • 2). Swap out air-based filters by opening the intake vents, removing the old filters, and putting in new ones every three to six months, depending on the dust levels where you live.

    • 3). Clean out permanent filters by taking them out and vacuuming them. Then, run water through them using a hose or sprayer. Wash both sides with a soapy rag. Rinse and dry with a towel or with paper towels. Permanent filters are more common in window units and in commercial air conditioning systems, with metal parts instead of the more disposable paper found in residential air filters.
