60th Birthday Present Ideas for Dad

    Scrapbook

    • A scrapbook is a beautiful gift to give dad; it should be filled with photos and mementos of the special times you and your dad have shared together. You can start it with a photo of your dad as a baby, and next to it, a picture of yourself as an infant. In the pages that follow, alternate between your father's accomplishments, such as his high school graduation or an army photo, with your accomplishments. Continue doing this until you have both reached adulthood in pictures. Then each and every photo should be of the two of you together, on vacations, fishing trips, and holidays. End it with his 60th birthday card and a note written by you to be read only by him.

    Arrange for a Vacation

    • Chances are your dad made many sacrifices while you were growing up--sacrifices he didn't mind making so you could have everything you needed and wanted. Now that you're grown and on your own, it's his turn. Maybe he's dreamed of fishing on Lake Tahoe, or has always wanted to cruise to the Bahamas. Whatever his dream has been, give it to him. Make the arrangements and hand him the tickets. If you want to go the extra mile, also hand him an envelope with spending money in it. Although he may resist out of habit, smile and hug him, then walk away.

    Give Him a Gift Certificate

    • Dads love to putter around the house, fixing this or painting that. This is why a gift certificate to the local hardware store is so perfect for him. He can purchase anything his heart desires, from WD-40 to a top-of-the-line cordless drill. Or perhaps he needs a weed trimmer or a lawnmower. Regardless, his eyes will glow with delight as he walks through the aisles of the store in his mind.

Make a Weekly Date With Dad

    • Life can become crazy and sometimes takes time away from the people we love the most. Although you may have the best intentions when it comes to spending more time with your dad, your own spouse, kids, and job may prevent this from happening. One gift you can give him that he will treasure above the rest is you. Before his birthday celebration, determine a day you can set aside every week to spend with your dad, even if it's just for an hour or two. Then commit to that day and tell your dad on his birthday that you will be by every Saturday to go fishing or to take him to lunch. Watch his face soften as the meaning of this gift touches his heart.
