How to Use X-Rite

    X-Rite Color Munki

    • 1). Select "Profile your printer" from the X-Rite startup page. Choose the printer you will be using from the list provided. Follow the prompts on the page to create a new printer and media profile.

    • 2). Print a test chart and allow ink to dry for 10 minutes. Make sure you turn off the color management option and select any specific paper, page setup or formatting that you want to use.

    • 3). Connect Color Munki to computer and it will indicate it needs to be calibrated. Turn the dial on the device from the west pointing position to the southwest position with your thumb. Click "calibrate" on the screen.

    • 4). Watch for screen to tell you it is calibrated and ready to measure. Turn dial to south position where there is a white circle.

    • 5). Follow directions on screen for measuring. Hold the Color Munki in your hand and slowly push the scanner eye along the color strips that you printed out. Watch your progress on the computer screen.

    • 6). Follow computer prompts that lead you through the measurement charts and to printing a second color chart. Follow the warnings as they come to the screen. Print the second chart and allow to dry thoroughly as before.

    • 7). Measure the second chart as you did the first; no other settings are required for this step. Save and name the profile when you have finished.

    • 8). Edit your output profile if the colors do not match up. Use the color tools in the X-Rite software to change the image coloring. Save when you are done. Once you save the color profile, you can use the profile as your coloring standard in Photoshop, Illustrator or other imaging software.

    X-Rite i1

    • 1). Position your X-Rite device on the front part of your computer monitor, making sure the lens is pointing forward and not towards your screen. This device will hang from the cord that will soon be connected to the computer.

    • 2). Install the software that comes with your X-Rite i1. Follow the prompts, plug the device into the computer when you are instructed to, and follow any additional prompts given until the install is finished. In this process, the device will capture the color and light to calibrate the image and your computer screen and printer.

    • 3). Go into your Windows Startup folder and remove Adobe Gamma Loader, if you are running on Photoshop.

    • 4). Allow the lens to capture the image you are going after. These images will be recorded and saved onto your computer.

    • 5). Use the X-Rite software to edit pictures to your liking. This color calibration between your computer monitor and the image itself ensures that you can process your images with more accurate coloring and shading.
