Famous Engineers Part 2

If you are interested in this subject, then you might want to pick out some of your personal favourites in the area of engineering that you want to specify. This will not only enhance your knowledge and aid your personal development, but it will impress potential employers.  Some famous engineers were outlined in the first part of this article.  Next, I will outline a few more engineers that deserve a mention!

Othmar Herrmann Ammann

Othmar's main speciality was bridge designing.  It is vital that bridges are constructed properly in order to ensure the safety of the public.  They can be designed in numerous of ways in order to achieve different outcomes.  For example there are some unusual bridges scattered all over the world that can sometimes be visually stunning.

Othamar was responsible for building a bridge with the longest span in the world at the time.  It was called the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and it was built in 1965.  He also was employed as a consultant on the construction of the Golden Gate bridge.  In his later years he studied at the Federal Technological Institute in Zurich.

John A Blume

John Blume was born in 1909 and he died in 2002.  He was a American structural engineer and some even considered him as the father of Earthquake Engineering.

His interest in Earthquakes was initiated by his experience of the Santa Barbara earthquake in the 1920's.  Blume did a significant amount of studying and learning at Standford University where he obtained a doctorate.

Thomas Brassey

Thomas Brassey was a British Engineer who had a deep interest and talent for Civil Engineering.  He was born in 1805 and died in 1870.   He deserves a mention in this article because he played a huge part in building railways around the world in the 1900's.  Moreover, he was also involved in the planning and construction of the London sewerage system.  He certainly achieved a lot in his lifetime and was a very driven, determined and talented individual.
