How to Train for a Certified Notary Signing Agent
- 1). Visit the website for the National Notary Association and browse to the state selection map. Click on the state where you desire to practice as a notary public.
- 2). Select the training package from the Association's list of available study curricula for your state. Choose whether you will be working with low-level documents, mid-level legal documents, or documents of high-value.
- 3). Study the training materials thoroughly and test yourself regularly to determine your weak areas of understanding. Use a third party to ask you questions and to check your work to prevent personal bias.
- 4). Apply to take a state exam for your certification as directed by the Association's how-to resources for your state. Make sure to bring the required testing/certification fees, #2 pencils and two forms of verifiable personal identification when you take the test.
- 5). Purchase bond insurance in the amount required by your state once you are certified. This information is included in the National Notary Association's information packet for your chosen state of practice.
