Care of Corian Countertops

    • 1). Wipe the counter dry whenever you get it wet, using a paper towel or dish towel. If water dries on the surface, it may eventually build up a film that leaves a spotted appearance. If you spill harsh chemicals, such as oven cleaner or paint stripper, on the counter, flush it with water, then wipe it off immediately.

    • 2). Clean up ordinary dirt, spills and stains with soapy water or commercial spray cleaners designed to clean the surface of counters, sinks and appliances. Apply the cleaner, wipe it off with a paper towel or cloth, then rinse with plain water and dry the countertop completely. Cleaners that use ammonia also work, though avoid ones designed for glass, since they may leave a residue that clouds the finish.

    • 3). Apply a commercial cleaner formulated to remove hard-water marks if the counter eventually shows spots or a mottled appearance from water allowed to dry on the surface.

    • 4). Disinfect the counter occasionally by wiping it with a cleaning solution made of household bleach diluted with an equal amount of water. Rinse it with plain water, then wipe it dry. Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from the bleach and follow the safety directions on the label for handling bleach.

    • 5). Maintain the shine of a gloss or semigloss countertop by applying a commercial countertop polish. Rub the polish on the clean counter with a paper towel, then wipe off the excess with a clean, dry paper towel. "Most countertops are finished with a matte/satin finish," according to DuPont's "Caring for DuPont Corian," but some have a gloss or semigloss finish.
