I prefer glass curio cabinets over a solid wood construction and here's why.
A solid wood cabinet is nice and it has it's proper place but the whole point of a cabinet is to display something that you think is important and how can anyone see your items when they are blocked from view? A glass curio cabinet allows you and your guests to view your precious china or family pictures from any angle in the room.
You do want to create a focal point for these items and obscuring them with wood does not do the job.
Another reason I prefer glass curio cabinets is some of them have mirrored backs.
This only aides in creating that focal point.
