What Is Collateral Advertising?
- Whether it is a single sheet of paper, a tri-fold or a fancy multi-colored catalogue, a brochure has many uses. It is a form of collateral advertising that you can hand out to prospective customers, use in a direct mailing, place on a counter to be picked up -- or sent out when people want more information about your company. They work well at trade shows and sales meetings, providing an item your customer can leave with.
- Business cards are a critical piece of collateral advertising. Every business person should have their own and it should include all contact information such as your name, company name, address, telephone number, fax number, website and your email address. If you can, add your photo to your business card -- many people find it easier to remember a face than a name.
- Whether you want to mail it out or send it through an email list, a newsletter can help keep your company's name in your customer's mind. Newsletters can be used to discuss industry trends, announce and review new products, offer testimonials or simply provide some information about your company such as a charity the employees are supporting or the upcoming company picnic. Newsletters work best when sent on a regular basis so that your customers look forward to reading it.
- People love freebies. This type of collateral advertising material includes items like pens or mugs with your company's name and logo. Think of items clients will use such as rulers, glasses, tote bags and water bottles. Samples are a great collateral item -- but be creative, give away something that will remind people about your company. Samples work well at trade shows, as you try to gain new customers.
