- 1). Identify the location of the anchors on the roof. The ideal location is at the peak of the roof starting at 6 feet from the edge of the roof. Install anchors every 8 to 10 feet for the greatest safety while on the roof.
- 2). Check the positioning of each anchor to ensure it is over a rafter in the roof below. The anchor needs to be screwed into a rafter to work properly and hold your weight should you fall. Rafters or trusses usually range from 16 to 18 inches apart depending on the age of your home and layout of the roof.
- 3). Place the double-strap anchor over the peak of the roof so that each half of the anchor is on either side of the peak. Predrill holes for the screws that will hold the anchor in place. The holes should penetrate the roof sheathing and rafters.
- 4). Screw the anchors into place with lag screws. The anchor is now ready for you to attach the safety rope and harness to it.
