Over the Horizon

Have you ever tried sitting at a beach corner while gazing at a picturesque sunset over the horizon? Well, if you have, did you take a good look at it? Not just the sun setting, but the horizon as well.
Anyway there was one time when I was reading through a friend's profile and he mentioned something about being a horizontalist.
I get what he means even though I've never heard of the word before and that's how he classifies himself as.
But then, what caught my interest was its rootword, the horizon, and what it stands for more than its simple definition of being level or flat.
At some point in our lives we get to experience a lot of fears and impediments that would block our way into achieving and reaching for our dreams.
We are all like the horizon.
We are standing on the same flat ground.
We were all born nude.
We were all born without knowledge.
In short, we are all equal.
I guess you've heard this a million times before, nonetheless it is true.
Picture this, looking over the horizon you will notice that on top of it lie mountains of different heights and sizes where the sun seems to hide during sunset.
The whole scenery reminds me of how life's reality is.
The horizon stands for us people and the different mountains can be compared to how we all differ in stations in life.
The larger ones speaks about those who have bigger opportunities to succeed in obtaining their goals, while the smaller ones are those who have to reach and work harder in order to be what they wanted to be.
Like the magnitude of these mountains, opportunities and chances are beyond our control.
We cannot change what is already there.
Oftentimes that is what triggers us to feel insecure because we think we are inferior to others.
The sun represents our dreams and aspirations, the "star" as we call it.
And just like the sunset the sun touches first the summit of the higher mountains.
Literally it means the fortunate ones gets to hit the target first.
But hey, don't fret! Chill out a bit and don't despair.
If you have the chance to observe it really closely, you will realize that we are not at all the loser we thought of ourselves to be.
As you will notice, the bigger mountain gets to reach the star first but then give it some time and the little one will have its chance of catching it too, maybe not as fast and as easy but just as definite.
Remember, it is the sun that goes down to hide behind these mountains not the mountains going up to cover it.
That is how I see life and how we live.
There are no winners nor are there losers.
We just have to patiently wait for our turn.
The horizon is known to be as the place where earth meets sky.
To us, it is where our dreams and determination coupled with faith meet to make us who we are.
When hopes and faith are clouded by insecurities and anxiety, don't forget to look out over the horizon.
It will remind you that life really is fair and beautiful, just like the sunset.
