The Captivating Marve and Manori Beaches in Mumbai

The beaches of Marve and Manori are among the most scenic beaches in Mumbai. They are located at a short distance from the city, about 19 kms, and are a quiet and peaceful place to enjoy the weekend. Mumbai tourism promotes these beaches as a weekend getaway for the tired Mumbaikars wishing to escape the chaos of city life. The Marve beach is a small beach adjoining the Navy base camp INS Hamla. You can get here by the local train and alighting at the Malad West railway station. Thereafter a bus or local transport will take you to the beach. This beach is small in size and swimming is not advisable due to the quicksand and strong currents in the waters. You can buy plenty of fresh fish here brought by the fishermen. This beach is good to enjoy a quiet and peaceful time with the family amidst swaying palms and golden sands. Ferries are available from here to take visitors to Essel World (an amusement park) or the adjoining Manori beach. The Marve beach is one of the most peaceful beaches in Mumbai.

The Manori beach is the bigger of the two beaches. It is one of the most popular beaches and is actively promoted by Mumbai tourism as the ‘Mini-Goa of Mumbai'. The Kolis are the original inhabitants of this area and their primary occupation if fishing. You will see a lot of fresh fish on display here and fishermen travelling into the Sea to bring home a good catch. There are ample of accommodation options here from beach shacks to bunglows, hotels and resorts. It has become a very famous tourist spot in Mumbai due to its accessibility and serenity. You can also visit the Global Vipassana Pagoda, which contains the bone relics of the Buddha. There are also two ashrams here of Swami Gagangiri Maharaj and his disciple Swami Gagananand Maharaj.  

The Manori and Marve beaches are the pride of Mumbai and are among the best kept beaches. One must definitely try the local cuisine at these beaches made with fresh fish caught the same day and using the flavoursome local spices. Since these two beaches in Mumbai have gained a lot of popularity, many more projects are coming up here to develop it more and make it the perfect getaway place, where people can enjoy undisturbed views of the sea and spend a quiet weekend.
