How to Finish a Four String Square Braid

    • 1). Lay your strands flat on your workspace as you braid them. When you reach the length of square braid that you want or when you have 2 inches of string left, make one more stitch or braid with the plastic lace. Pull on the ends of all of the strings to make the braid as tight and even as possible.

    • 2). Hold all eight ends of the plastic strings together. Align their ends as close as possible, then make a simple overhand knot with the eight ends of the plastic lace. Make another simple overhand knot with the laces to make a double knot. Or, if you like, you can leave the strings hanging from the last stitch if the square braid is tight enough and will not unravel.

    • 3). Hole the lace ends together and line them up. Trim the ends to make a 1-inch tassel with the ends of the braid if you tied a double knot. Trim the ends down to a half inch if you did not.
