- 1). Close the door to the room with the vent if possible. This keeps the cat out of the room and off the vent.
- 2). Fill a spray bottle with water. Spray the cat each time she approaches the vent.
- 3). Shout at the cat with a loud "go away" or "no" when he is on the vent.
- 4). Peel off the rinds of citrus fruits such as limes, lemons or oranges. Place these rinds and peel in a small container. Cats hate the smell of citrus fruits, so the smell acts as a deterrent.
- 5). Spray a citrus-scented air freshener around the vent daily. Or spray the scent into a clean cloth and tie the cloth to the vent.
- 6). Fill a bottle with one part vinegar and one part water. Spray the area around the vent on a regular basis. Vinegar is also offensive to cats, who have a keen sense of smell.
