RV Campgrounds Near the Grand Canyon

Approximately five million persons visit the Grand Canyon each year, according to the National Park Service. Most visit the south rim, which is accessible year round. In places, the north rim lies only 10 miles across the canyon from the south rim, but visitors cannot drive directly across. They must instead drive a distance of as much as 220 miles to get around the canyon. RV campers may stay on either the north rim or the south rim of the canyon. - Mather Campground is located on the south rim of the Grand Canyon and is open year round. The maximum length of an RV trailer accommodated here is 30 feet. Tent camping is also permitted at this location. Two vehicles and three tents maximum are allowed per site. There are no electric or water hookups; however, restroom facilities are located throughout the campground. Hot showers, washing machines and clothes dryers are located near the campground for an additional fee. A dump station is also located close to the campground. Pets are permitted inside the campground, but must remain on a leash at all times; they are not permitted on the canyon rim. Reservations are recommended if visitors plan to camp from March through November.

This campground is open from mid-May to mid-October each year. After mid-October, a limited number of campsites are open as long as weather permits. There are no electric, water or sewer hookups for RV campers, but a dump station is located on-site. A charcoal grill is located at each campsite and is the only place a fire is authorized. A general store is located at the entrance to the campground, as well as coin-operated showers and a coin-operated laundry. Leashed pets are permitted, but they may not be left unattended. Each site has a six-person maximum. Up to two vehicles and three tents are allowed per site.

This campground has electric, sewer and water hookups for RV campers. Campers can also use the dump station located near Mather Campground to dump their sewage. The sites are paved, pull-through sites that will accommodate trailers up to 50 feet in length. Each location has a grill and picnic table. Coin-operated showers and a laundromat are located within the campground. There are also public phones and vending machines. This campground is open year round--reservations are suggested and can be made up to one year in advance. This campground also welcomes pets that are leashed, but requires them to be attended at all times.
