dock landing ship
Definition: (DOD) A naval ship designed to transport and launch loaded amphibious craft and vehicles with their crews and embarked personnel in amphibious assault, and to render limited docking and repair service to small ships and craft; and one that is capable of acting as a control ship in an amphibious assault. Designated as LSD.
