How to Turn Windows Firewall On or Off
- 1). Click on the Start Menu and go to "Control Panel." (Windows Vista is shown, but XP is very similar.)

Click the Security Center with the shield icon (shown). The icon is the same for the XP Security Center. - 3
Click on the Windows Firewall icon, or the shield under, it to go directly to an area where it is possible to turn the firewall on or off. The firewall icon is the same in Vista and XP. - 4
Click the dot next to the green shield icon to turn the firewall on, or the dot next to the red shield to turn it off.
