Strength Training - Why Do We Need This?

There is a common impression among a large section of people that strength training is only for those who want to build muscles and display them as a show piece.
No wonder, any talk of weight training is automatically associated with building six pack abs.
There is much more to this kind of training.
In fact, training our muscles and strengthening them is very important for every one of us.
We all want to be strong.
Physical strength is of foremost importance.
One can be strong financially, intellectually or in other ways.
But without physical strength, what value can the other types of strength have? All our actions depend on how strong our body is.
We know how many people develop problems in their muscles limiting their movements.
So, let us get rid of the illusion that strength training is only for athletes and wrestlers.
Every one needs this.
Even a lazy beggar needs the strength to stretch his arms to seek alms! Strength conditioning is a process of making our body muscles function at the optimum level.
How will we like the house we live in clustered with objects thrown at different places, making it difficult for us to move smoothly within the house? The condition of our body whose muscles are prevented from moving smoothly by excess fat deposited at different parts is not much different.
We need to exercise to dissolve the fat and help the muscles get some free space to move.
A proper understanding of our body structure will definitely make us more responsible in maintaining our body.
How do we get strength? Strength is a result of muscular action.
The muscles themselves are moved by our nervous system through impulses in response to the command initiated by the brain.
With muscles not ready to do what they are asked, the commands of the brain will not be carried out.
What can be more sorrowful than our brain becoming ineffective in controlling our body? Eventually, the brain learns not to give commands that will not be obeyed.
Thus, we have a situation of the body controlling the brain rather than the brain controlling the body.
It is also vital to understand that strength training is a technical process and we need to understand the basics of this training before we embark on one.
Once we understand the importance and the indispensability of strength training, we can seek to understand the different types of weight training programs that are available and choose one that will be most suited to us.
