Personal Experience

• Before you embark on your quest to become a skydiving instructor, obtain personal experience in skydiving. For most, this experience will come in the form of a private skydiving class, though some colleges and universities do offer skydiving programs for interested students, often for physical education credit.
  
  

Certification

• There is no law mandating you hold any certifications to work as a skydiving instructor, but obtaining a position of this type will prove easier if you do have a certification. Several organizations, including the United State Parachute Association, offer certifications of this type. You will learn skydiving techniques and safety procedures, making you particularly appropriate for leading others into the art of skydiving.
  
  

First Aid Training

• Because there are so many hazards present in skydiving, receiving first aid training is a wise choice for an instructor. First aid training from the Red Cross or another reputable training organization will help you deal with minor injuries your students may incur.
  
  

Company Training

• If you work for an established company, you will likely have to complete an on-the-job training program. You will receive a refresher in the basics of skydiving instruction and an explanation of how the company wants you to run the course. This training takes place after the company has hired you, but often before you take on your first set of eager skydiving students.
