Installation of Granite Countertops

    • 1). Turn off the water shut-off valves on the sink and disconnect the water lines that connect the shut-off valves and the sink faucets. Use a pair of pliers for this.

    • 2). Loosen the compression nut that holds the sink drain to the trap. Use a pair of pliers to loosen the nut. This will allow you to pull the sink out while still attached to the down pipe for the drain.

    • 3). Remove the retainers for the sink with a wrench set. If the sink is self-rimming and mounts to the top of the counter with adhesive, press the putty knife between the countertop and the sink and pry the sink off. Remove the sink and set it off to the side.

    • 4). Remove other accessories secured to the countertop, such as stovetops. This may require the assistance of a licensed electrician.

    • 5). Remove the fasteners that hold the countertop onto the cabinets. Use a wrench set to remove the fasteners. If the countertop is glued onto the cabinets, press a putty knife between the top of the countertop and the bottom of the countertop and pry the countertop off. Discard the countertop.

    • 6). Place the granite countertop onto the cabinets. Again, this will likely take assistance from one or more people to lift and position the countertop in place.

    • 7). Secure the L brackets to the underside of the countertop. The countertop has threaded inserts in the bottom. Use the supplied fasteners to secure the brackets to the countertop. In the event the inserts are not preinstalled, glue them in with adhesive and wait for them to dry.

    • 8). Secure the other side of the L bracket to the inside of the cabinets with the supplied screws and a screwdriver.

    • 9). Place the sink and any other accessories onto the granite countertop and make all of the necessary connections.
