Tutorial for How to Sketch a Dragon

    • 1). Create an action line to represent what the dragon is doing. Draw a horizontal line if he is going forwards. If he is flying towards the ground, draw a slanted vertical line to represent flying down.

    • 2). Draw a triangular shape with the pointed end away from the body to represent the head. This will help create the narrow snout of the dragon.

    • 3). Sketch in a large oval circle along the action line for the body. Draw a line that extends out from the back of the body to represent a tail. Add a triangle to the end with the pointed end away from the line.

    • 4). Create wings by drawing two T-shaped lines along the body for the arms of the wings. Draw four small, curved lines coming out from the left top of the Ts for the wings. Build the top line the longest and each following line a bit smaller than the one before.

    • 5). Add details to the body, such as lines for the wings and lines to connect the leg shapes to the body.

    • 6). Add details to the head such as slanted eyes, mouth and horns for the top of the head.

    • 7). Add other details to complete the drawing, such as such as scales or feathers to the body and wings. Create flames blowing out of the dragon's mouth.

    • 8). Reinforce the lines by going back over the ones being kept and erasing any unneeded lines, such as the basic shapes.
