How to Make a Treasure Chest

    • 1). Remove the lid from the shoe box and use a ruler to measure it.

    • 2). Take apart a cereal box so you can lay it flat. Then, cut out a rectangle that is the length of the shoe box and twice as wide.

    • 3). Tape one end of the cereal box piece that you cut out to the long side of the shoe box lid. Bend the cereal box piece to form an arch and tape the other end to the opposite side of the shoe box lid. You should now have a hollow arched shoe box lid.

    • 4). Scrunch up newspaper and use it to fill the hollow arch on your shoe box lid. Cut out two pieces from the remaining cereal box cardboard to cover the hollow sides of the arch. Use tape to secure them to the sides of the shoe box lid. Place the lid back on the shoe box and you have an undecorated treasure chest.

    • 5). Use wrapping paper to cover the plain shoe box and lid. Secure the wrapping paper using glue or tape.

    • 6). Decorate the treasure chest using whatever materials you desire. Ideas include markers, paint, glitter or stickers.
