Damprid Mold Removal
- If you can see mold stains on surfaces in your home, then you will have to remove them completely before Damprid can be used effectively. Get rid of all excess moisture in the room and scrub the moldy surfaces with either a foaming solution of baking soda and vinegar or a cleaner with trisodium phosphate as an active ingredient (common in hardware-grade cleaners). After spraying the area with these cleaners, scrub the mold stain vigorously and dump the wastewater down a drain, followed by some running water. If you have mold on fabric surfaces, such as curtains, you will need to launder them with hot soapy water to get rid of the mold.
- Once the visible mold is gone, you can use Damprid to remove some of the moisture in the air, which will keep spores from repopulating. Damprid comes in either canister or bag form, and can be activated simply by opening its container. Once the Damprid has been activated, it will pull moisture from the air, and mold will cease to grow. Make sure to place the Damprid unit in an area that is out of plain sight, but close to the area where mold is most likely to occur. For instance, if mold is most likely to grow on baseboards, you will want to place the Damprid near the floor.
- After a few months, the active ingredient in the Damprid container will start to shrink and will lose potency. Once you see this change beginning to occur, it is time to replace the product. Generally, most Damprid products have an active life of about 60 days for large homes, and up to six months for smaller homes. Just be sure to check on your Damprid canister/bag regularly so you will know when it is time to replace it.
