How to Cut Pre-Formed Countertops

    • 1). Draw the line for the cut with your level and pencil. Lay a strip of masking tape over the length of the line. Mark the line again over the tape.

    • 2). Set the circular saw on the edge of the countertop with the blade in front of the line. Mark on the countertop the position of the outer side of the saw plate (the part that sits flat on the countertop). Use your level and pencil to extend the mark across the countertop, so the line runs parallel with the first (taped) line.

    • 3). Set your straight board along the outside of the new line so there remains open space between the two parallel lines. Use wood clamps at both ends of the piece of wood to secure it to the countertop.

    • 4). Set your circular saw back in place, lining up the blade with the marked and taped line. The outer edge of the blade plate should be pressed against the side of the board.

    • 5). Engage the saw, let it get up to full speed, and push it forward along the line through the masking tape. Move it slowly, cutting all the way along the line.
