- A pixel is a single point of color in a digital image. Digital images are made by arranging these points of color to create shapes. The more pixels in an image, the more precisely shapes are defined and the better the image will look.
- Digital cameras see light using thousands of rows of sensors. Each sensor coincides with a pixel. For each megapixel a camera has, it has one million light sensors.
- Sometimes digital displays, such as computer monitors or televisions, advertise their megapixel count. As with digital cameras, this represents the millions of pixels the display holds. The higher the megapixel count, the more pixels the screen displays, and the better the quality of the images shown on it.
