Saving Money on Disposable Diapers

Are Name Brand and Generic Diapers Really all the Same? There is large-scale disagreement on the answer to this question.
In my experience, some store brand diapers are just as effective as the high-priced diapers; however others left me sadly disappointed with their stiffness, lack of good fit, and tendency toward blowouts while my children were in their dressy clothes.
How Much Can You Save By Buying Generic? There are now many different types of disposable diapers, and even most store brands have both a premium and a non-premium version.
For the sake of cost-comparison, I think it is best to compare the non-premium versions of each or the premium versions of each for an apples-to-apples analysis.
The average pack of national brand diapers costs $9.
99, and the average store brand costs between $6 and $8.
99.
Therefore, one can expect to spend on average about $1-$4 per pack less on generic diapers.
Assuming an average of one pack of diapers per week used, that would be a total monthly savings of between $4 and $16 per month.
This price comparison, of course, does not take into account sales, specials, and coupons.
Buying National Brand Diapers For Less: There are some cases in which it is more cost-effective to buy the Huggies or Pampers, such as when they are on sale, and when you have a coupon.
It is important to note that some national stores, such as Target, Wal-Mart, and Walgreens, will accept both one coupon from their store and one coupon from the manufacturer for each product.
The most cost-effective way to buy name brand diapers, then, is to buy them when they are on sale, and when you have at least one coupon.
For example, I have been able to, on occasion, purchase two packs of name brand diapers from Target when they were having a $5 gift card giveaway for buying two packs, when the brand was also on sale for 10-15% off, and when I also had a $1.
50 off coupon from Target and a $3 off coupon from the manufacturer for each pack, meaning that I was able to buy them for about $4 per pack and get a $5 gift card.
During these rare opportunities, I saved a great deal over buying a store brand.
Buying Store Brand Diapers For Less: If you have found a store brand of diaper that you find to be reliable and comfortable for your child, you can save a bundle by buying them when they are on sale.
Walgreens, for example, has regular BOGO 50% sales for their store brand diapers.
They will also offer a $1 off coupon on rare occasions, allowing you to buy two packs of their diapers for $6 per pack.
