How to Size My Cannondale Bike
- 1). Measure your inseam using a fabric tailor's tape measure or a retractable construction tape measure. The inseam is the length from the sole of your foot to the top of the inner thigh. Write this number down so you can use it when choosing the correct Cannondale frame size.
- 2). Obtain a frame size chart. The chart can be found at your local Cannondale authorized reseller. Match your inseam length to the appropriate bicycle frame size on the chart. Although this will be your anatomically correct frame size, personal preference can come into play also, so select a second frame a size larger and a third frame a size smaller to compare. Your Cannondale dealer will be happy to let you try several frame sizes and make recommendations to help you choose.
- 3). Adjust the saddle (seat) height on each Cannondale bicycle to suit your tastes and to provide the correct riding position for your intended riding style. When standing with your feet on the floor and the saddle under your buttocks, there should be between 2 and 5 inches of clearance. Off-road riders prefer closer to 5 inches to keep the seat from hitting them as they sit up to go over bumps, and road cyclists may wish to start with 2 inches of clearance for more pedaling efficiency.
- 4). Adjust the handlebars for the appropriate height. Riders who like to go fast on their Cannondales should adjust their handlebars so their bodies are pointed downward slightly when they ride. This improves aerodynamics and gives greater control at speed. Casual riders and some mountain bikers will prefer the handlebars of their Cannondale to be adjusted higher for a seating position that is easier on the back. Try a range of positions and see what feels best to you.
- 5). Ride the bicycle. Your Cannondale dealer should allow you to ride the bicycle in the parking lot or along the sidewalk to get a feel for the complete setup. A well-fitted bicycle will be easy to balance, steer, pedal and stop. If the bicycle feels awkward in any way, stop and make further adjustments or try a different frame size.
