How to Power Wash a Chimney
- 1). Plug your power washer in, making sure that it has all the water and cleaning solution that it needs, based on the manufacturer's instructions.
- 2). Cover the top of the chimney. There should not be a circumstance in which an excess of water would get into the chimney, but it is always best to be cautious. You can use a tarp or something similar. Just make sure to remove it when you are done. Spray the chimney thoroughly around all edges. If it is a jagged stone style, make sure you get between each stone to clean it sufficiently. You will need to stay at least 3 to 4 feet away from the chimney at all times to avoid dangerous back splash of the pressure washer and damage to the stone. Judging on the intensity level of the power washer, you may need to be farther back. Follow the instruction manual that will specify the distance you should stay from the chimney.
- 3). Clean up the exterior. This should be relatively simple, just wipe down the sides of the chimney making sure to eliminate any soap stains. You may take a simple garden hose and wash down the chimney lightly to clean away all residue. This will ensure that any cleaning chemicals or solutions will be washed down the drains so that they do not damage the exterior of the house.
