More Questions to Ask a Private Seller of Used Vehicles for Sale
You can never ask enough questions of a seller of used vehicles for sale. Here are some more questions you can ask in addition to main ones discussed in my previous articles. These questions might seem less important, but they can be equally as valuable in determining the sales verdict.
Does the car have special/ added features?
Does the car have special features like a navigation system, Bluetooth or an alarm that adds value to the car? Are these still in a good working condition? Also ask if the owner added features - maybe the car didn't have central locking or a CD player and the owner had it fitted on his own. This will be a bonus for the buyer because it sets the vehicle a step above its counterparts.
Is there still a warranty on the vehicle?
Most likely the answer will be no. However, some used vehicles for sale might still be under a factory warranty if the owner decided after a year or so to sell the car. You will be extremely lucky if you can get such a deal from a private seller, but it's not entirely impossible.
Are you willing to negotiate on the asking price?
Normally that is the case, but the real question is: by how much? It is a good idea to inspect used vehicles for sale for any damage/ faults and then use this as leverage to lower the price. But if you can't afford his initial asking price and he isn't willing to negotiate on it - don't waste your time.
What did your advert say again?
Print out the wording of the advert on the specific vehicle and take it with you. Casually ask the seller during the inspection to give you the facts again. If the seller suddenly changes his story, or you notice a difference in the info on the advert and what you are seeing with your own eyes, be wary. The seller has something to hide or it is a scam.
Where did you keep the vehicle?
The preferred answer will be: in a garage. This way you know the vehicle was protected from the elements. Unfortunately it isn't possible to have a garage present everywhere you park, but if the vehicle was at least protected from the sun and rain it is a plus point.
Don't neglect to ask as many questions as you can about used vehicles for sale, even if they seem insignificant at the time. You as the buyer need to protect yourself in any way possible from ending up with a piece of junk.
