Should You Buy a Wireless Home Security System?

There are many different types of home security systems. Each one has its own positive benefits and negative features. A wireless security system has some major benefits over a wired one. But, there are also some problems when relying on a wireless system for your security.

A major bonus with wireless systems is that you don't have to deal with a bunch of wires running all over your house. If you're not an electrician, you will have to hire a professional to come out to your house and install the wired system. With a wireless system, you can install it yourself in less than an hour.

One of the main problems with wireless security systems is that they are prone to false alarms. The system uses radio signals to transmit signals from the door and window sensors back to the control panel. Radio signals from other electronic appliances might interfere with the system's signal causing the alarm to go off.

When the battery dies, you will have to recharge it or replace it all together. Wired systems usually come with a backup battery so you don't have to worry about the battery dying and leaving your home unsecured.

Now I know I mentioned several negatives with owning a wireless security system, but I don't want you to rule it out. Even though the wireless systems cost a little more than wired ones, they can also be easily updated with the latest security innovations. Not only are they easier to install, they are also easier when it comes to adding video monitoring to your system. You can install wireless security cameras to your system in just a matter of minutes.

If you don't feel comfortable with installing your system on your own, you can also hire a local professional security company to install it for you. If you hire a company like ADT or Broadview, they can monitor your system for a monthly fee. This way, if anything happens at your home while you're at work or on vacation, the security system will notify the monitoring company, who will then notify the proper authorities or call you to let you know there is a situation at your house.

Wireless security systems are becoming more and more advanced and the problems mentioned earlier will probably soon become nonexistent. More and more people are choosing wireless systems due to their ease of use. So, the few negatives mentioned shouldn't deter you from getting one for your home.
