Kudala Sangama - An Auspicious Pilgrimage As Well As A Tourist Place

What Is Kudala Sangama

Kudala Sangama is one of the most famous historic places in Karnataka. This is basically a Shiva temple mainly for people of Lingayat belief, but it is also considered as an admirable tourist place in Karnataka. The temple, which was built 800 years ago, has a large square of stone slabs and has a huge artistic tower above the entrance. The temple is constructed in the dravidian style and holds the images of Lord Basavanna, Ganesha, Nandi and Neelamma.

As the temple is facing towards the river, it is covered with tight barricade, so that the devotees can walk comfortably leading towards the shrine. The linga inside the temple symbolizes Lord Sangameshwara.
This place is located around 15 kilometers from the Almatti Dam of Bagalkot District in the Karnataka State in India and can be reached through roadways. Booking a bus ticket is quite easy or you can choose to travel via train. The Government of India has spent around 45 Crores for the development of this place. Now, the Kundala Sangama Development Board takes care of the maintenance and improvement of this temple.

The famous river Ghataprabha and Krishna merge at Sangama and flows eastwards that is towards Srisaila of Andhra Pradesh, which is also an historic centre. The Holy Samadhi of Basavanna, who was the founder of Lingayath faith along with the ling that is believed to be self born (swayambhu) is placed here.

€ Mahamane Campus of Basava Dharma Peetha that is situated on the other side of river Krishna that is a holy Samadhi of lady saint Neelambike.

€ Basaveshwara's Aikya Linga

€ Poojavana with tidy paths between trees that usually looks like a mini forest.

€ Colossal Sabha Bhavana a large auditorium having a seating strength of 6000 seats. It basically has doorways on each of its four sides, which are named after Nilambike, Gangambike, Akka Nagamma and Channabasavanna surrounded by enormous grey dome at the centre of the temple.

€ Basava Gopura lined up to house Basava international centre, which is 200 feet high balanced tower that looks very impressive.

€ The ashrama that is meant for tourist stay also has a museum and a collection of sculptures that are related to Lord Basavanna.

How To Reach Kudala Sangama

It is very well connected by road through Hungund €" 20 Kilometers, Almatti €" 26 Kilometers and Bagalkot €" 50 Kilometers via NH 13. You can either buy bus tickets or try online booking of bus tickets that are easily available based on your convenience. The best time to visit the place is during winter season, as the crowd is less and darshan is peacefully.

There are various Ashrams and Choultries, which are very economical and also provide a comfortable stay to all the pilgrims and free meals are served to everyone at dasoha.
