Looking After Your Drains In The Festive Period

The festive period is approaching, which means lot of the normal festivities, including cosy nights in by the fire, Christmas decorating, and lots of entertaining! We want to make sure that during the festive period, you make sure you are taking care of your drains. Forecasting that you are entertaining possibly in the build up to Christmas, as well as on Christmas day, Boxing day, and even New Years eve - dependent upon how much a cook you rate yourself as, it could be a good idea to flush your drains out before, and in between each of these events to prevent you from having a nasty and potentially embarrassing issue. You could start, by simply leaving the hot tap running in any of the sinks/baths/showers that you have. Hot water helps to break down caught soap from baths/showers, and also helps in the deconstruction of any fatty of grease build up in the drains leading away from any sinks near to where cooking waste is disposed of. Leave the hot tap running for around 15-20 minutes, this is all you need to do. If you already have a drain which is slow draining, it would be advisable to purchase a plunger, to do your best to shift any current blockage - before it is too late. Another method of clearing drains and preventing blockages is to put vinegar and baking soda down your drain pipes, followed shortly by hot water. This causes a chemical reaction and is effective in breaking down some forms of drain blockages. Finally, keep an eye on what your guests are using your drains for. If you are cooking, keep in control of what is put down the kitchen sink, ensure that no waste food or grease/oil/fat is put down the drain, which could cause a build-up. Keep children away from toilets, the last thing you would want is for them to throw their new Christmas toy down the toilet, ruining the toy, and potentially causing a blocked drains! If you maintain your drains effectively, then you should have no problems, and no reasons to call out an expert, however, if you do, make sure your first call is Drain Clear UK, our engineers work every day of the year, no matter what time of day or night.
