Rose Planting Tips to share to successfully plant and maintain a rose bush.
  • Your number one priority when planting rose bush or a rose garden is using the simple logic of location.

  • Your roses will need to be in 6 to 7 hours of sunlight a day to flourish and remain healthy.
    Some varieties of roses can be in some shade, but the majority of those will stillrequire 4 to 6 hours of directly sunlight a day.
  • Make sure you take into consideration the soil in which you will plant your rose bushes.
    Good soil will promote good growth and health.
    Two detrimental features of soil that can ruin your plants is too much sand and/or clay.
  • By using this simple test, you can assure that your soil is in perfect balance.
    Take a sample of the soil in your hand.
    If the soil molds to your hands and does not crumble easily, your soil has too much clay.
    If the soil crumbles easily, there is too much sand.
    A mixture of soil that will crumble but still molds is the perfect balance of soil you will need.
  • Be mindful that the soil is too acidic and does not contain too much chalk or limestone.
  • Take into consideration the space you have available in your garden for your rose bushes.
    An overcrowded garden will draw nutrients and water away from your rose bush's roots.
    This may hamper their growth and you may have unhealthy bushes.
  • When planting your bushes, dig your hole a little larger than the pot in which the plant is in at the current time.
  • If you should encounter a lot of roots in and around the hole you have dug for your rose bush, keep in mind that it may hamper the plant's growth and overall health.
  • Should you reside in a cold climate region, you will want to dig your hole a little deeper to protect the bush's roots from the cold weather and freeze months.
  • Once your hole is open, try and loosen up the soil in the bottom of the hole and add bone meal.
    Bone meal will promote growth of the bush and is a good source of phosphorous.
  • After placing the rose bush in the hole, you can the spread the roots out and return the soil in the hole making sure the roots are well covered.
  • You will want to water the roots prior to replacing the dirt in the hole.
Once the hole is covered, make sure to secure the base of the plant with remaining soil and water generously.
