How to Control Anxiety Through Diet

    • 1). Avoid anxiety-promoting foods. Certain foods and beverages contain ingredients that cause anxiety because of the chemicals they contain. Refrain from caffeine, excess sugar, processed foods, and alcohol.

    • 2). Stay hydrated. Drink at least the recommended 6-8 glasses of water daily. When you become thirsty your body has already hit the dehydration point. This creates a tense environment for your body. Staying hydrated will prevent stress as well as headaches.

    • 3). Replace coffee with tea. Chamomile tea is a great anxiety reliever. Warm beverages calm your body. In addition, chamomile is an herb that's been used since the Middle Ages. It has many healing effects such as soothing nerves, headaches, depression, and muscle pain.

    • 4). Eat plenty of green vegetables. Green vegetables contain high amounts of vitamin B. Vitamin B greatly reduces stress. Steam or sauté your vegetables, instead of boiling them. When vegetables are boiled they lose their much-needed nutrients in the water.

    • 5). Add carbohydrates to your diet often. Complex carbohydrates stabilize your blood sugar, acting as a mood stabilizer. Eat foods such as potatoes, whole-wheat bread, and pasta.
