- 1). Once you've noticed the stain, don't add any water. This will only make the stain worse because lipstick is an oil-based product.
- 2). Avoid rubbing the stain at all as this will also cause it to spread.
- 3). Gently pick up any excess pieces of the lipstick out of the rug.
- 4). Blot out any stains on the carpet with a paper or regular towel.
- 5). Dab hairspray, petroleum jelly, vegetable oil or other oil-based solvent on the stain and let it sit for about 15 minutes. The oil from the petroleum jelly or hairspray should pick the stain up from the carpet.
- 6). Scoop up the oil, if possible, and blot the stain gently with either a mixture of ammonia and water or soap and water.
