How to Locate a Deportee
- 1). Write a list of the deportee's entry and deportation information. Begin with the person's legal name, aliases, last known address, date of entry into the United States, deportation date and alien registration number. In addition, include the original detention date, time, offense charge and reason for deportation or detainment.
- 2). Contact the Detention and Removal Operations office in your city to inquire about a deportee. Call and ask to speak with a detention officer. Explain that you are looking for information on a specific deportee. Normally, the officer will ask personal identification questions about the deportee and your relationship to him before supplying information. Access the United States Detention and Removal website to locate the nearest field office where the deportee was detained. Each DRO field office maintains records of all detained and deported individuals.
- 3). Speak with the foreign embassy in the home country if the individual has been deported. Access the United States Department of State website's section on foreign embassies in the United States. Locate the information and call for assistance. Foreign embassies usually keep official records of deported individuals. The embassy representative will ask for important information relevant to the deportee. If a person cannot be located, then the embassy will tell you to try another official within the country or request that you call back with additional information at a later time.
- 4). Search for additional assistance from the consulate in the home country. The consulate can supply official information about re-entry into the foreign country and the location where the deportee was released. The consulate can also refer you to foreign-based agencies to help you locate a deportee who was returned to his native countries.
