Arizona Immigration Bill SB 1070 the After Effects
I had the unique pleasure of speaking with a Police Officer of our fine city.
He explained to me how the chopped up version of the law only made the process of dealing with "unauthorized citizen's" much more cumbersome and less effective.
As we talked more he explained how the process of involving Customs agents in the most routine aspects of of law enforcement such as a common traffic stop meant spending much more time than usual.
This seemed to only tie up a bunch of City and State enforcement officers, essentially bogging down the system.
The officer upon explained that when making a traffic stop they can only deal with the aspects of the initial infraction.
Meaning if there is no legitimate paperwork clearly defining said person as a U S Citizen the the officer must at this point contact US Customs as the status of citizenship clearly supersedes the initial traffic infraction.
At this point the issue is now one of nation interest as opposed to city or state.
The small problem with this is that's the way it has always been! The only true fact to emerge unfortunately from all of this was just how undermanned and unprepared our own United Sates Customs Division is when it comes to the issue of not only immigration but the entire the picture as a whole, defending America's borders.
The sad truth is now out in the open.
We cannot successfully defend our borders against our friendly next door neighbors how can I feel safe against hostile enemies of our great country.
The wonderful officer of the law I had the pleasure of speaking with was actually waiting for the crime scene unit on an issue pertaining to involving two legal American citizens, as defined in their job description officers.
Our city and state officers were not hired to enforce borders they specialize in matters within the borders of our United State of America.
The after effects of Sb1070 was nothing like most expected.
It seemed to have the opposite effect in fact.
We learned that there was no one agency specifically trained in handling this particular situation.
It had been pawned off and passes along from agency to agency like a neglected child.
It grew into something uncontrollable and out of hand and no one knows how to deal with it (no agency in this case).
Therefore no one wants to.
I for one now wonder about the reality of the situation.
I mean really if we can't stop the flow of untrained non-English speaking illegal immigrants from coming into the country under the pretense of simply looking for a better way of life.
Then how should we all feel about the hostile openly professed enemy of the US that has learned English as well as several aspects of terrorism over years and years of training.
Maybe that responsibility falls to another agency Homeland Security maybe? America has suffered many insults in the form of terrorist attacks this generation alone.
When will we learn that we as a country have to address the issue of national protection as well as provide a sense of security that every American Citizen is entitled to.
I for one am glad the Bill exposed such a large vacuum within our countries protection of it's borders.
Maybe the issue will be addressed appropriately and fairly once and for all.
I for one would like to have that sense of security and well being my parents and grand-parents once had in their lifetimes.
There aren't any more surprise attacks, Pearl Harbor was truly the last one...
we should have learned back then.
