How to Send Priority Mail

    • 1). Package your item in the appropriate Priority Mail envelope or box, which can be obtained free at a local post office or postal service center. Choose from flat-rate packaging or regular Priority Mail packaging, making sure your item will fit properly inside. You can use a regular box or envelope, but it must have Priority Mail stickers or stamps affixed to it at the time of mailing.

    • 2). Fill any empty space inside a Priority Mail box with packing materials or newspaper. The contents of your box will be better protected from damage if they're not shifting in the box during the delivery process. Seal the box using the self-stick seal or with packing tape.

    • 3). Send your Priority Mail package or envelope by taking it to a postal service center. Use the automated service machine to purchase the appropriate postage, or give your package to the postal clerk. Purchase the Priority Mail postage, which is either the flat-rate price or is based upon the weight of the package and the destination to which it is going.

    • 4). Place your Priority Mail package in the proper receptacle if you've used the automated machine, or take it to the counter so the clerk can take the package for you.
