- 1). Make a list of all 30 companies that make up the DJIA. You can find the 30 companies comprising the DJIA listed on the Dow Jones Indexes website.
- 2). Determine a start date and end date for your earnings calculation.
- 3). Locate the earnings data for all 30 companies in the DJIA for the calculation period. Most companies report their earnings quarterly. You can find the quarterly earnings for each listed on any prominent financial website that carries stock market information, such as Yahoo! Finance or MSN Money.
- 4). Mark down the earnings data found for each company during the computation period next to the listed company name.
- 5). Add the earnings data for each company to determine individual company earnings during the computation period. Add all of the company data together to figure out the total Dow Jones earnings for the period.
